Short plant description HU 425 in
culture
Diameter of the culture plant is 18 cm. Plant
height without cephalium 10 cm. The colour of the epidermis is green. The number of ribs is 18. Number of areoles per rib is 6-8. The number of radial spines is 5-7. The spines upwards are 0.5 cm and
the 3 spines side- and downwards are up to 2.5 cm. The shape of the
spines is straight to slightly bent to the plant and the colour is
gray/brown.

Discocactus pulvinicapitatus in culture is a
difficult plant to cultivate. This species is very sensitive to fungal
diseases especially in the first two years.

HU461
Diameter of the culture plant is (1999) ca. 20 cm.
Plant height without cephalium 11,5 cm.
The colour of the epidermis is green.
Number of ribs is 24.
Number of areoles per rib is 10 or more on plants with cephalium.
The shape of the areoles is round.
The number of radial spines is 5-7 and 1 central spine to ca. 2 cm. The
length of the other spines is 0.5 to 2 cm.
The shape of the spines is straight and the colour is black to gray.
The colour of the cephalium is gray to cream.
The colour of the fruit is cream/white.
The position of the stigma is at the primary stamens.
Recently it's discovered that the first flowers
are mostly white. The culture plant is still growing. HU461 is also
known as D. pulvinicapitatus var. gigantoglobosus (n.i.) It belongs to
the D. latispinus group.
